Coldplay were invited to give a debut live performance of ‘Higher Power’ on the hit TV show American Idol on Sunday 9th May 2021. They needed to convey their cosmic concept in the most spectacular way as the eyes of millions of eager Coldplay fans would be upon them. This would be the first new Coldplay music played live in over two years; they needed to make maximum impact within the confines of a television studio. 

On a tight deadline and with a vague specification, Sparks Electrical were commissioned to design, manufacture and integrate a means of lighting the massive inflatable spheres whilst allowing full control from the comprehensive lighting desks.

We set about producing high powered LED equipment to be installed within the spheres whilst at the same time, designed and manufactured a robust flight case containing the Drivers, DMX control equipment and a safe and easy means of striking and reinstating the equipment, which is now embarked on Coldplays' American Tour, numerous times in a rugged environment.

Our engineers were on hand to set up the original incarnation as seen above at The Roundhouse Theatre in Cambden and ensure seamless integration with the lighting programs.
